Monthly Wholesale RV Unit Shipments to Dealerships

The RV Industry Association (RVIA) compiles and tracks how many new RV units each RV manufacturer makes and ships to RV dealers on a monthly basis. The wholesale shipment report breaks down RV vehicles by unit category in aggregate to avoid any RV manufacturer’s specific production numbers being released.

2023 Monthly Wholesale New Unit Reports

December 2023

RVIA’s December 2023 manufacturer survey reported an RV total shipment of 8.1% increase compared with December 2022.

December 2023 RV shipments amounted to 21,522 while December 2022 were at 19,907.

RV shipments in 2023 totaled 313,174. The results were down 36.5% compared with 2022.

Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, were up 11.4% in December 2023 compared with December 2022 at 18,680 shipments. Motorhomes were down 9.4% compared with the same month last year at 2,842 units.

November 2023

RVIA’s November 2023 manufacturer survey reported total wholesale RV shipments at 25,160. Shipments increased 2.8% compared with the 24,470 shipments registered in November 2022.

To date, RV shipments are down 38.4% with 291,652 shipments.

Towables were up 4.4% from November 2022 with 21,429 shipments. Motorhomes were down 5.4% at 3,731 compared with November 2022.

October 2023

RVIA’s October 2023 survey of manufacturers found October 2023 wholesale RV shipments totaling 28,371.

The total is down 13.1% from October 2022 levels. However, it is up nearly 15% from the 24,700 shipments in September 2023.

Towable RVs posted 24,825 shipments in October, down 9.2% from October 2022 levels.

Motorized RV shipments totaled 3,546, down 33.4% from October 2022.

September 2023

RVIA’s September 2023 survey of manufacturers found wholesale RV shipments totaled 24,700. The total is a decrease of 12.9% compared with September 2022 and is down 13.9% from the 28,701 wholesale RV shipments in August.

Towable RVs totaled 21,385 wholesale shipments, down 7.6% from September 2022.

Motorized RVs totaled 3,315 wholesale shipments, down 36.6% from September 2022.

Through the first nine months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments are down 42.8% from the first nine months of 2022.

August 2023

RVIA’s August 2023 survey of manufacturers found 28,701 total wholesale RV shipments. The total is down 16.9% from August 2022, when the industry shipped 33,783 RVs.

RVIA President and CEO Craig Kirby said: “In recent years, we have seen RV buyers get younger and more diverse. September is an exciting month for the RV industry as many manufacturers debut new units and features to appeal to these new RV buyers.”

Towable RVs ended the month down 14.6% from August 2022 with 23,941 shipments.

Motorhomes finished the month down 28.3% compared with the same month last year with 4,130 units.

July 2023

July’s wholesale RV shipments reached the second-lowest monthly level of 2023, according to RVIA.

The association’s manufacturers survey reported 20,520 wholesale RV shipments in July. Only January’s 20,405 shipments were lower thus far in 2023.

The July total is 30.5% lower than the July 2022 shipment total of 29,528. Through the first seven months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments are 47.7% lower than the first seven months of 2022.

Towable RVs shipments, led by conventional travel trailers, were 29.9% lower than July 2022. Motorhome shipments were 34.2% lower than July 2022.

June 2023

RVIA’s June 2023 survey of manufacturers found the industry reported 24,095 wholesale RV shipments in June, a 46.4% decrease from June 2022.

The June total is the lowest level since January, when RVIA reported 20,405 wholesale RV shipments.

In June, towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, totaled 20,6770 wholesale RV shipments, down 48.3% from June 2022.

Motorhomes totaled 3,425 wholesale RV shipments, down 30.8% compared with June 2022.

May 2023

Results for RVIA’s May 2023  survey of manufacturers found that total RV shipments ended the month with 30,919 units, a decrease of (-38.8%) compared to the 50,529 units shipped in May 2022. To date, RV shipments are down (-49.7%) with 140,735 units.

Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month down (-41.7%) from last May with 26,559 shipments. Motorhomes finished the month down (-12.2%) compared to the same month last year with 4,320 units.

Park Model RVs finished May up 16.8% compared to the same month last year, with 480 wholesale shipments.

April 2023

Results for RVIA’s April 2023 survey of manufacturers determined the industry shipped 31, 216 wholesale RVs in April.  The total is a 45.4% decrease compared to the 57,192 wholesale RV shipments in April 2022.

After four months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments are down 52.1% from the first four months of 2022 with 109,816 wholesale RV shipments.

March 2023

Results for RVIA’s March 2023 survey of manufacturers determined the industry shipped 31,869 wholesale RVs in March. The total is 50.8% decrease compared to the 64,778 wholesale RV shipments in March 2022.

After three months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments are down 54.3% from the first three months of 2022, with 78,600 wholesale RV shipments.

February 2023

Results for RVIA’s February 2023 survey of manufacturers determined the industry shipped 24,903 wholesale RVs in February. The total is a 53.7% decrease from the record 53,773 wholesale RV shipments in February 2022.

After two months of 2023, wholesale RV shipments are down 57.7% from the first two months of 2022, 45,308 wholesale RV shipments.

January 2023

Results for RVIA’s January 2023 survey of manufacturers determined that total RV shipments ended the month with 20,405 units, a decrease of 61.8% compared with the record 53,351 units shipped in January 2022.

Towable RVs, led by conventional travel trailers, ended the month down 66.8% against last January with 16,117 shipments. Motorhomes finished the month down 10.1% compared with January 2022 after shipping 4,288 units.
