The first Tuesday of this month marked a day that will be celebrated by recreational vehicle enthusiasts for years and held in fond memory by stakeholders in Indiana’s RV industry.
To commemorate the signing of the Great American Outdoors Act, Interior Secretary David Bernhardt designated Aug. 4 as “Great American Outdoors Day” and said it would be a fee-free day at public lands managed by the department.
The act provides full, permanent funding of $900 million every year for the Land and Water Conservation Fund and dedicates up to $1.9 billion per year for five years to fund deferred maintenance projects identified by the National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Bureau of Land Management, and the Bureau of Indian Education.
The signing was a long-awaited moment for the RV industry, including the RV Indiana Council, Ronald Breymier, executive director for the council and the Indiana Manufactured Housing Association, said in an email.
