At 7:05 a.m. EST Dec. 18, Dr. Michelle Bache became the first person to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at Elkhart General Hospital.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), health care personnel and residents of long-term care facilities should be the first to receive the vaccine.

Elkhart General received 975 doses Thursday and is prioritizing critical staff.

Bache and others receiving the vaccine will need another shot in three weeks for it to become fully effective.
