Wholesale RV values dropped in January, according to Black Book, prompting analysts to question whether a normal schedule is on the forefront.
Motorized units saw a $4,995 decrease and towables were down $1,155 compared with the previous month.
“The values of used RVs sold at wholesale auctions declined a bit last month after a period of atypically strong performance,” said Eric Lawrence, Black Book principal analyst of specialty markets. “Although prices dropped across the board, they are still very high by historical standards.”
Motorized units average selling point was $55,072, down 8.3 percent from the previous month. That still is up 29 percent from one year ago, the segment’s average selling price was $42,633.
“The big question here is if new production is finally starting to catch up with demand, taking some pressure off used, or was this dip an anomaly caused by seasonal factors,” Lawrence said.
Towables’ average selling price was $18,191, down 5.9 percent from the previous month but up 19.2 percent from January 2020. The average selling price one year ago was $15,253.
Auction volume for motorhomes and towables decreased, down 10.5 percent for motorhomes and 10.1 percent for towables compared with the previous month.
