Former RVDA board chairman and 2005 RV/MH Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Greer passed away Feb. 21.
Greer was the owner of Jerry Greer Airstream in Columbus, Ohio. He was a key RVDA leader in the 1980s through the 90s, according to information submitted to the association by Parkview RV Center’s Rick Horsey. Greer served as RVDA chairman for two terms in 1990 to 1992.
“Much of the way RVDA functions now is a result of what Jerry was able to accomplish,” former RVDA President Mike Molino said. “He had the ability to look two, three years, or 10 years, into the future and was a mentor for many of the RVDA leaders who came up through the 1990s into the 2000s.”
Horsey said Greer was recognized as an advocate for making the RV sales process more customer-friendly, being a driving force behind advancing outdoor recreation issues through his American Recreation Coalition support.
“His leadership guided and inspired dealers to become more professional through education,” Horsey said. “He was one of the founders of the RVDA Education Foundation and served as chairman for the first seven years of its existence.”
Greer served on the RV Assistance Corp. (RVAC) for nine years, including five years as its chairman. Horsey noted Greer was instrumental in providing many products and services still used by dealers today. He, along with other volunteer leaders, helped develop RVDA’s first strategic plan and was involved with the effort to purchase the association’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia.
Greer was honored in 1995 with the James B. Summers award, RVDA’s highest honor. He was inducted into the RV/MH Hall of Fame in 2005 for outstanding industry leadership.
Greer is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rita, brother, sister and nephew.
