RV dealers and campground owners in Michigan are “looking forward” to the upcoming sunny season as masks come off and COVID-19 vaccinations continue to roll out.
The Michigan Association of Recreational Vehicles and Campgrounds (MARVAC) reported industry businesses are encouraging travelers to hit the road.
“We are up and running and looking forward to seeing everyone,” said Betty Workman, owner of Vacation Trailer Park in Benzonia.
A long-standing MARVAC member, Workman and her team said they anticipate a great season with return of many long-time campers, in addition to new ones. The association stated Vacation Trailer Park often sees many returning families that span generations.
“We are a campground for everyone, from old to young,” she said. “Everyone gets along with everyone. Old-timers love to show fishing techniques to younger anglers, and the kids are a breath of fresh air for others.”
The location offers amazing fishing opportunities, Workman said, although the reason families return throughout the years is the relationships made with the site.
“Workman is always happy to see the familiar families coming back, and she is also excited about the new families that are discovering the fun of camping,” the association stated.
Workman noted the campground continues to be diligent about cleaning public areas, but is not anticipating issues. She said camping has “always been a naturally social-distance activity.”
In Warren, Michigan, Carl Kline, owner of Kline’s RV Center, noted RVs are in high demand this year within a buyer market.
“We are expecting an even better year than last, and we were closed for six weeks,” Kline said.
Workman said those seeking summer RVing and camping trips should check campground availability soon. The “trick” is to be flexible with dates and have an open mind, she said.
“When people go RVing and camping, in addition to getting fresh air, exercise, rest and relaxation, they are also helping revitalize the local community they are visiting,” MARVAC Director Darren Ing said.
According to RVIA, Michigan continues to be among the top five states for RV deliveries. Last year, 16,571 units were shipped to the state, with 1,336 RVs shipped in 2020’s first quarter. So far, 2021’s first quarter has seen more than 5,270 units shipped to Michigan.
“It is great to see the level of enthusiasm for RVing continues to grow,” Ing said. “Camping and RVing is a fantastic way for families to spend quality time together, enjoying the natural beauty of pure Michigan.”
