Outdoor travel marketplace Outdoorsy was named as one of the largest and fastest-growing marketplace startups and private companies by venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz.

The “a16z Marketplace 100” list ranked Outdoorsy No. 11 overall, a jump from last year’s No. 28 spot in the inaugural list. Among startups recognized on the list, Outdoorsy ranked second overall in the travel category.

In addition to the a16z placement, Outdoorsy recently was named one of the biggest technology employers in the Austin, Texas, area by the Austin Business Journal.

“The incredible growth we have seen and the work we have done to make the outdoors accessible to all would not have been possible without the collaborative and welcoming environment our team has collectively fostered and found in our outdoorsy backyard of Austin,” Outdoorsy co-founder and CEO Jeff Cavins said.

The Marketplace 100 is based on data from consumer data analytics company Bloomberg Second Measure, which assesses consumer purchases to track real-time behavior and relative sales across more than 5,200 merchants, determining which categories and companies are growing fastest.

“This ranking is further testament to our team’s fortitude and commitment to Outdoorsy’s core values in a time where unpredictable twists and unprecedented turns were around every corner,” Cavins said. “After a year like 2020, it is rewarding to hold the No. 11 spot in such incredible company. For us, it is a reflection on the light we were able to find at the end of the tunnel and a reminder of the tenacity put forth by our team in the past year.”

The recognitions follow what has been a “game-changing year” for Outdoorsy. In 2021, the company was named by Forbes as one of America’s Best Startup Employers for the second year in a row. Outdoorsy also ranked as the top RV rental marketplace in SimilarWeb’s annual list of top 100 digital brands.
