Grand Teton National Park nearly beat its annual September visitations record with an estimated 570,584 visitors. The park ended the month with the second-most visits on record.
The September 2021 visitation estimate is a 10% increase from September 2019 when an estimated 517,265 visitors attended the park, and a 5.5% decrease from the same month last year, when the park service recorded an estimated 603,789 visitors.
Camping in the park increased by 25% this year compared with the same time period in 2019. The park service recorded 74,348 overnight stays in 2021, up from 59,340 overnight stays in 2019.
Backcountry camping increased by 49% from 2019 with 7,229 such trips in September 2021. Trail use also rose by 30% in September 2021 from September 2019 for trails where use is counted.
Historically, July and August have been Grand Teton’s busiest months for visitation. Recent trends tracked by park staff show increased visitation in the spring and fall.
