From the Publisher: Your Baby is Ugly

If you read this letter’s headline and immediately took it personally, read on, I eventually get to a point. If the first thing that popped into your mind after reading the headline was Michael Jackson’s song, “Billy Jean,” relax.

If your first thought was Shaggy’s hit song, “It wasn’t me,” LOL, you need help. This column is not about you. Or is it? (grin). OK, I’m just messing with you, so let’s move on.

I’ve learned through my extensive experience as a bachelor that there are many ways to make women very angry.

While most of those situations were unintentional and caused by me having a moment of stupidity, I believe there must be some small percentage of times when her anger had more to do with where she was at than what I said or did.

I am happy to report, the one thing I’ve had enough sense not to ever do is tell a mother her baby was ugly. Maybe you’ve never made this mistake either.

From this perspective and history, I come to the point. Almost all babies start cute, but as they grow, they change. Let’s be honest, some babies get ugly over time.

My baby, RV News magazine, is one such example. It’s OK. You can say it. I won’t fly into a rage.

The most important ongoing work I’ve been doing the last 9 to 12 months has been revamping and redesigning the entirety of RV News magazine. Today, with this digital issue, you can judge the RV News team and my efforts.

The project went far beyond mere aesthetic changes and delved into who we are as a news organization and how we strive to continually improve and provide a better product for our subscribers and advertisers.

The April issue is the fruit of our labor. It has an entirely new look, cover to cover. It does a much better job of displaying the heroes of our industry that are between this month’s pages. It does a better job highlighting great RV companies doing great things. It celebrates the many business voices in our industry and what they think. Our tagline, after all, is “The voice of the RV industry.”

Future issues will continue the bold new look you see in this digital version. That is not to say we won’t make other tweaks and changes based on your feedback but I feel we have crossed a threshold to bigger, better, bolder, and yes, more beautiful.
