The National Park Service (NPS) recently announced the creation of a National Campground Office. The office will be responsible for improving consumer experiences at NPS’s over 1,400 campgrounds.

“This initiative is great news for RV travelers and everyone who enjoys camping in our national parks,” said Phil Ingrassia, RVDA president and past chair of the Outdoor Recreation Roundtable. “The formation of a National Campground Office is a proactive step to enhance the visitor experience at NPS campgrounds across the country.”

NPS stated the office will improve coordination across programs and facilitate technical assistance to parks and regions on campground-related issues and services.

“In the coming months, Business Services will stand up a National Campground Office and recruit for a national program manager to lead this important ongoing effort,” NPS stated.

NPS also announced a new campground financial model for decision-making. The tool will help managers evaluate campground investment and operations aspects, NPS stated.

“Specifically, this model can assist with: Analyzing revenue and expenses when setting campground rates, estimating and assessing financial impacts of potential infrastructure investments, and evaluating the tradeoffs associated NPS versus concession operated business models,” NPS stated.
