JD Power’s first quarter 2022 Market Insights Report found seasonality more pronounced at the beginning of the quarter than in the previous two years. Economic conditions continue to evolve, and it is likely consumers are responding, the report said.

Standard hitch travel trailer values averaged 30.1% more higher in the first quarter compared with the first quarter of 2021. Values rose 5.6% in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the fourth quarter of 2021.

Fifth-wheels’ average values rose 16.9% in the first quarter of 2022 from the first quarter of 2021. Values were 3.6% higher in the first quarter of 2022 from the fourth quarter of 2021.

“Late last year, economic changes such as the end of individual stimulus, increasing competition for consumer dollars from the service and travel industries, gas prices, and general inflation had threatened to impact demand for RVs,” the report said. “Nonetheless, we had predicted historically strong values would remain in place.”

Class A Motorhome values averaged 16.9% higher in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the first quarter of 2021 and rose 6.4% from the fourth quarter of 2021.

Class C Motorhome values averaged 25.7% higher in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the first quarter of 2021 and rose 4.7% compared  with the fourth quarter of 2021..

The report said since J.D. Power predicted historically strong values would remain, the Russian invasion of Ukraine caused economic factors to accelerate.

“We may be seeing some effect in the marketplace,” the report said. “Upcoming weeks will provide more data.”

Camping trailer values brought 34.7% more in the first quarter of 2022 than the first quarter of 2021 and 8.4% more than the fourth quarter of 2021.

Truck camper values averaged 25.1% higher in the first quarter of 2022 compared with the first quarter of 2021 and 5.2% higher than the fourth quarter of 2021.
