Wilkins Recreational Vehicles, Inc., completed an agreement to buy Jim’s RV Center. Wilkins RV said it soon will acquire Jim’s RV Center’s operations in Nichols, New York.
“We are proud and excited to take over and build upon the proud heritage that has been built by Jim’s RV and its employees,” Wilkins RV President Brian Wilkins said. “They have a great customer following and we look forward to supporting that customer base and continuing the growth they have experienced for over 60 years. From a strategic standpoint, this move allows us to increase our presence in the Binghamton and northern Pennsylvania market and better serve our current customers in that market.”
Charles Wilkins founded Wilkins RV in 1936 in New York as an auto detail shop. The company has expanded to seven locations, including the Jim’s RV Center purchase.
“It has been our privilege and pleasure to have served the RV market in the southern tier of New York and northern tier of Pennsylvania for over 60 years,” said Scott Jewell, Jim’s RV Center president. “We want to thank the many thousands of customers who have trusted Jim’s RV Center to fulfill their RV needs and we are confident that Wilkins RV will continue to meet those expectations. We also want to express our gratitude to our talented and dedicated employees without whom we would not be the organization we are today. We are certain that Wilkins RV will take both our employees and customers to new heights.”
Jim Jewell founded Jim’s RV Center in 1952 as a sporting goods store in Waverly, New York. Jewell started selling boats, motors and eventually RVs. As the business grew, he moved the business to a larger location in Sayre, Pennsylvania. Jewell’s sons – Scott, Todd, and Matt – started to join the business in the late 1970s and bought the dealership in 1987. The RV Center outgrew the Sayre location and moved to its current 35,000-square-foot location on 16 acres in Nichols.
Wilkins and Jewell expect the transaction to be completed May 31.
