EXCLUSIVE: Online Platform Seeks Expert RV Technicians

JustAnswer, an online platform that connects people to verified experts from doctors to mechanics, needs experienced RV technicians to answer a growing number of submitted questions.

In 2022, JustAnswer experts have processed almost 11,000 RV-related questions, including 5,300 since May 1. According to JustAnswer, the site is receiving between 500 to 650 questions per week this summer travel season.

“With the growth of RVs, and RV sales… there are a lot more people out there exploring the country and a lot more people who do not know what they are doing,” JustAnswer Head of Expert Acquisition Tim Whipple said. “So, it’s been good for questions coming in to JustAnswer.”

To be considered an RV expert, JustAnswer requires technician certification from RVDA, the RV Technical Institute or the Recreational Vehicle Service Academy plus two years of verifiable work experience. Technicians who can verify five years of work experience in lieu of the certification may also be accepted.

The company does not currently need RV service or sales professionals without technical qualifications.

“What we are really looking for is people who are actively working in the field that are doing this every day and want to use their expertise,” Whipple said. “Let’s say you are an RV mechanic and you are not getting the hours you want, but you want to make a little more money using your expertise. We have experts in all categories who log in for half an hour every other day and answer 5-10 questions a week. They want to help people with what they know, and they find it interesting and entertaining.”

Some JustAnswer RV experts are working on the road from their RVs, Whipple said.

Experts can work as little or often as they like, much like an Uber driver, Whipple said. Specialists get paid a dollar amount per answer, from $6 to $14, depending on their answer quality. Each answer is audited by a third-party company. Experts get paid on the first of each month for the previous month’s answers.

JustAnswer buys ad positioning on search terms in Google some of which are terms about RVs and RV repair. When consumers Google questions, a JustAnswer advertisement pops up directing the questioner to the JustAnswer site. Consumers get offers to receive answers to their questions from the site. They are invited to sign up for a trial membership to JustAnswer.

Of JustAnswer’s 12,000 current experts in 150 categories, about 25 are RV experts.

Recently submitted RV questions include:

  • “My speedometer isn’t working.”
  • “I have a toilet that keeps clogging.”
  • “I need to know what size generator to run my RV.”
  • “Our leveling system is not working.”
  • “My slide out won’t come all the way in.”
  • “I had to take my fifth wheel in and when I picked it up my batteries were dead.”
  • “I accidentally overloaded my fifth wheel’s electrical system.”

Interested RV technicians can fill out an online application. Whipple advises emphasizing certification qualifications and including all employment or business ownership references when applying. Click here for more information about becoming a JustAnswer RV expert.
