Lightning eMotors, the electric chassis provider behind Winnebago’s e-RV concept motorhome, expanded its school bus plans with Rev Group subsidiary Collins Bus Corp.
The plans will build on the partnership between the companies announced last year. Collins’ zero-emission Type A school bus now will include GM and Ford chassis platforms.
Although Winnebago and Thor Industries unveiled electric concept vehicles earlier this year, Rev Group has not announced plans to bring an electric RV to market. Lightning eMotors has worked with Rev Group and Forest River to build electric chassis for school buses, shuttle buses and passenger vans.
“We are excited to expand our existing partnership with Collins to include what is widely considered to be the preferred platform for the Type A school bus, the GM 4500,” Lightning eMotors CEO Tim Reeser said.
Both chassis versions of the Type A school bus come with 125 kWh of batteries, providing about 130 miles of range.
