Go RVing released its monthly trend report for August 2022. The report finds RVers like to hop in their motorhomes to improve their mental health. It also reveals many RVers are frustrated with tech travel and LGBTQ+ consumers feel their travel choices are limited.

Taking a mental pause

The report finds RV travelers are focusing on their own mental wellness. RV travel gives them ample opportunity to use their hands, get outside and explore to improve their mood.

The survey found RVers are more apt to knit a pair of socks or do other crafty activities. Three-quarters of campers said they think being outside is good for their mental health. One-third said they want an “ultimate relaxation trip.” One-third said they want a “wellness holiday.”

Discrimination is real

Sixty-one percent of LGBTQ+ travelers said they have experienced discrimination, while 60% of the community feel their identity limits their travel choices. One in five say they have changed their behavior while traveling. Sixteen percent felt the need to alter their appearances to avoid awkward interactions with accommodation staff. Travel is more complicated for the LGBTQ+ community, GoRVing said.

The organization has started to represent LGBTQ+ community members in marketing campaigns to make them feel more at home. Signage at dealerships, campgrounds and special events should follow suit, Go RVing said.

RVing’s time to shine is now

According to the report, travelers are expressing frustration with the hidden fees and rising prices of tech travel companies like Airbnb. Other tech companies like Uber and Lyft are starting to charge increased rates and even scooters are getting more expensive, impacting travelers’ choices when on the road.

Go RVing said the time is right to show consumers RVing is a flexible and transparent way to travel. Industry businesses need to be honest about costs, time and effort to maintain vehicles so new RVers remain RVers for a lifetime, GoRVing said.
