The shipping container glut at the Long Beach and Los Angeles ports has all but ended, according to new data from the port authorities.
The two Southern California ports imported 686,133 containers in September, down 18% from September 2021. At the shipping backlogs’ peak, more than 100 ships were stalled at sea waiting to unload cargo. The past week, only four ships waited to unload cargo, according to port figures.
The average cost to ship a container from Asia to the U.S. West Coast also declined last week, according to Drewry’s World Container Index. The price fell to $2,720, down 84% from the recent peak price of $20,000 in 2021.
