Adventurer Manufacturing, the maker of Scout truck campers, recently unveiled the Tuktut truck camper.
In Inuvialuit, Canada’s western arctic Inuit language, Tuktut means “young caribou.” According to Adventurer Manufacturing, the name reflects the company’s commitment to nature and adventure.
The Tuktut is constructed with an aluminum exoskeleton, a gel coat fiberglass exterior and roof and full composite substrate walls. The truck camper weighs 643 pounds, 300 pounds lighter than the company’s next size, the Yoho.
Adventurer Manufacturing partners and consumers looked at the company’s truck camper line and asked for something lighter and simpler.
“Since our launch in the spring of 2020, one of the most surprising pieces of feedback we kept getting with each new product was, if we would be looking at even more simplified versions of our campers,” said Elly Pimentel, communications manager at Adventurer Manufacturing. “It was during this last year that our team was ready to make that a reality.”
Tuktut can be towed by mid-sized trucks such as Ford Rangers or Toyota Tacomas with a 5-foot bed. The truck camper’s low base weight brings greater utility to compact trucks such as the Ford Maverick, which Pimentel said have not before now had a hard wall camper specifically designed for their use.
Tuktut sleeps two adults. The bunk mattress is 47.5 by 69.6 inches. Standard amenities include a 22-inch entry door with a clear glass window, entry assist bar, thermal pane windows with screens, solar reflective shades and a ratchet tie-down system.
Additional options available directly from the factory include removeable jacks, bilateral bedrail runners and a new powder-coated portaledge bunk extension. The bunk extension expands the bunk to 80 inches long and features a new MOLLE system design for multifunctional storage when the bunk is stowed.
Adventurer Manufacturing has partnered with Goose Gear, a modular storage solutions supplier well known to the overland community, to offer additional aftermarket options. Goose Gear worked closely with Adventurer Manufacturing’s engineering team to create six Explore Series modules for the Tuktut camper. They include a step drawer module, a drawer module, a power module, a utility module, two different offset plates and a base plate.
The black baseplate option offers another layer of protection for the truck camper. The offset plates and baseplate options enable easier future cabinet reconfigurations. The Explore Series modules can be installed through Adventurer Manufacturing’s existing service centers or Goose Gear’s dealer locations.
“The Tuktut is an acknowledgment of our relationship with our customer base,” Pimentel said. “There are a million different ways to say, ‘You have a great idea,’ but then taking action on that and making it something we now get to experience together… it is really exciting to say we actually did something about (customer feedback) because it was important to us.’
The Tuktut base model is $16,500 and pre-orders began May 17.
