Annual RV New Vehicle Shipments Through May Down 50%

RVIA’s May 2023 survey of manufacturers found that total wholesale RV shipments ended the month with 30,919 units shipped, a decrease of 38.8% compared with May 2022’s reported 50,529 units.

Year to date, RV shipments are down 49.7% from 2022 levels through five months, totaling 140,735 wholesale RV shipments.

“Summer is officially here and people across the country are using their RVs to create lasting memories with family and friends,” RVIA President and CEO Craig Kirby said. “RVing continues to be one the most economical ways to travel and for those looking to take an incredible vacation while also controlling their travel costs, RV dealerships nationwide have many affordable options to meet the demand.”

The totals are the third consecutive month the industry hovered around 31,000 monthly shipments. April shipments totaled 31,216 and March shipments were 31,869. According to Statistical Surveys Inc., retail registrations outpaced wholesale RV shipments in March and April.

Towable RV shipments, led by conventional travel trailers, ended May 2023 down 41.7% from May 2022 with 26,559 shipments. Motorhomes were down 12.2% compared with May 2022 with 4,320 units.

Park Model RVs finished May up 16.8% compared withthe same month last year, with 480 wholesale shipments.
