An RVIA-commissioned survey found 50% more Americans planning RV Memorial Day trips this year than in 2023.
This weekend, the survey found 18 million Americans planning to go RVing for the Memorial Day holiday, the unofficial start of the summer travel season. In 2023, 12 million Americans planned RVing trips over Memorial Day weekend.
Overall, the survey calculated that 45 million Americans will take RV trips this summer. The number increased 2.7% compared with 44 million Americans who planned to go RVing in 2023.
Half of leisure travelers surveyed have RV travel plans within the next year. Last year’s survey revealed 72 million Americans planning RV trips within the next 12 months.
Go RVing Chief Marketing Officer Karen Redfern said, “With the rising costs of traditional travel, more and more Americans are discovering that RVing provides a budget-friendly way to explore the country and create unforgettable memories.”
The survey results provided numerous reasons why consumers chose RV travel. These include affordability, comfort/convenience, road trip fondness, positive past experiences and nature connection.
This year, 52% of RVers plan to travel between four to seven hours from home. A third of RVers are planning trips within three hours of their homes
The survey was conducted by Cairn Consulting. The study calculated 1,709 surveys from U.S. leisure travelers. Leisure travelers are defined as any U.S. resident who has taken some type of leisure trip in the past 12 months.
