Highland Ridge brought a high-end fifth wheel back to the market this year.
The Open Range 3X was discontinued in 2017. Highland Ridge reintroduced the fifth wheel at the RV SuperShow in Tampa, Florida, in January.
The 2024 Open Range 3X is 42 feet, 7 inches long. The fifth wheel’s various features and updates fill a distinct audience need.
Highland Ridge and Starcraft RV Senior Director of Development Randy Graber said the 3X is tailored to upper end, experienced fifth wheel buyers, including baby boomers and remote workers.
Graber said consumers at the RV SuperShow liked the RV because the Open Range 3X is “the best value for the dollar out there on the market today.”
The fifth wheel is insulated with a three-quarter-inch vapor barrier in between the aluminum frame and the inside wall to maintain the RV’s internal temperature.
Graber said, “Our walls are 50% thicker than our competitors.”
The 3X’s slide outs are 7 feet tall and 3.5 feet deep. The slide outs extend with four cables, one at each slide out corner. The cable system weighs 35 pounds
The Open Range 3X is 15 feet wide with slide outs extended and 13 feet tall with air conditioners.
Graber said, “Open Range is about more room and less weight.”
The 2024 floorplan provides more room in the bedrooms and bathrooms compared with previous 3X models. The 3X sleeps up to eight people. The master bedroom at the nose of the RV has a king-sized bed. The room has two dressers, a closet and a washer/dryer prep area. The master includes a full bathroom.
At the opposite end of the RV, the second bedroom has a queen-sized bed with storage underneath. The suite includes a dresser, a wardrobe and a full bathroom. Both bathrooms have glass shower doors.
The living area includes a door-side slide out with power reclining and theater seating. A dinette with four chairs is between the lounge and the kitchen.
The kitchen includes a GE Appliance 21-cubic-foot refrigerator. The kitchen includes a GE 3.75-cubic-foot oven with a four-burner range, a GE microwave and a hidden pantry.
LED lighting is installed throughout the cabin. The 3X has Bluetooth speakers on the ceiling and outside. The 3X is powered by an Xtend Solar I Package, which includes a 200-watt solar panel and a 30-amp controller. The fifth wheel includes cable and satellite prep.
The VoiceLink voice command system manages lighting, heating and cooling. The TravelLink system, a multiplex system from BMPRO, provides awning, light and slide out control.
Three 15,000-BTU air conditioners cool the RV. The furnace has 40,000 BTUs and a 5,000-BTU fireplace is installed in the entertainment center.
The 3X has a 91-gallon freshwater tank, an 80-gallon gray water tank and an 80-gallon black water tank.
Two powered awnings with LED lights extend 18 feet and 12 feet on the door side. A security camera is positioned above the 3X’s entrance. The fifth wheel features an outside kitchen with a griddle and a quick connect port.
The 3X is fitted with Equa-Flex axle suspension, LevelLock’s automatic leveling system and self-adjusting electric brakes. The vehicle has G-rated tires.
Dealers are now stocking the Open Range 3X.
