An RVshare survey revealed 86% of RVshare renters plan to travel this summer. The RV rental platform’s recent survey divulged consumer trends and desires for the upcoming travel season.

Less than 20% have travel plans over holidays such as Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day, suggesting alternative travel time preferences. The finding comes after an RVIA-commissioned report found 50% more Americans are planning RV travel over the Memorial Day weekend than they did in 2023.

RVing provides cost-effective travel. According to RVshare, 55% of travelers are drawn to RVing’s affordability.

More than 70% of survey participants do not have international summer travel plans. Nearly half of respondents cited airline tickets’ cost as the largest travel deterrent, while 36% are avoiding hotel costs.

More than half of survey respondents reported craving time outside.

RVshare CEO Jon Gray said, “There are so many physical and mental benefits that come from breaking through the four walls and exploring open-air adventures and activities.”

RVshare’s report concluded that consumers must spend 67 minutes outdoors each day to feel refreshed. More than two-thirds of Americans said they view travel as a self-care method, while 42% claim they need to book a trip to “escape” at least once every six months.

Those seeking time outdoors reported having a better mood and feeling more relaxed and clear-minded after outdoor time.

According to RVshare, Americans who regularly book trips enjoy activities such as camping, hiking and grilling.

“Our renters have shown us that while there is an uptick of curiosity and interest in RV travel,” Gray said, “there are also varying reasons that call them to the open road.”

More than half of participants uphold annual travel traditions, while three-quarters considered adding an RV trip with family and friends to their yearly plans.

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend will kick off summer travel as the unofficial start to the season.
