MTI Industries Owner Dies

Jeffrey Wisniewski, MTI Industries’ owner and president, died Aug. 10 after a lengthy illness.

MTI Industries manufactures RV carbon monoxide, propane gas and smoke detectors, as well as marine gas fume detectors, fire and bilge alarms under the Safe-T-Alert brand.

Wisniewski’s parents, Tom and Sandi, founded the company in 1980 to build carbon monoxide alarms and gas vapor detectors for boats. Jeff Wisniewski began working at MTI in 1991 and had a hand in every aspect of the business, working as production manager, general manager and vice president.

In 2009, Jeff Wisniewski became company president when his parents retired. MTI said Jeff Wisniewski’s proudest achievement was creating MTI’s patented RV dual carbon monoxide/propane gas detector, which has become the industry standard for life safety products.

Kelly Wisniewski, who had been the company’s vice president, will step into the president’s role. MTI Industries said the company will miss Jeff Wisniewski and his leadership, but “business partners can rest assured that company operations will continue without disruption.”

“Our new manufacturing facility in Tennessee is fully operational,” Kelly Wisniewski said, “and a team is in place to assure a smooth transition while keeping Jeff’s values and vision for MTI moving forward.”

Dana Nelsen CEO of RV News magazine said, “Jeff was a dear friend and his passing is a great loss. While he had many great attributes, he truly was a great businessman. His honor and integrity were really unmatched. He always did the right thing by his customers, his business associates and his friends. While MTI will no doubt continue to thrive under the Wisniewski family, it makes the loss of Jeff no less acute. My heart goes out to Kelly, Josh and the entire MTI staff.”
