Go RVing’s monthly trend report examined solo traveling’s growing popularity.

According to a 2024 booking, com travel predictions survey, 59% of travelers reported interested in solo traveling. An American Express report found solo traveling is expected to grow over 9% annually through 2030.

Over a quarter (27%) of 2023-2024 Solo Travel survey respondents said they plan to go solo on their next trip, twice the response from the previous year.

Individual RV travel received a boost in 2021 when the motion picture “Nomadland” opened in theaters. The movie, starring Frances McDormand, portrayed a widow who left her life in Nevada to travel around the country in her Type B motorhome. The film was named the best picture at the 2021 Academy Awards show.

Go RVing said, “With solo travel’s rise in popularity, the industry should continue to foster opportunities for solitary RV travelers to explore outdoor destinations while still having the option to connect with others.”

Various resources are available to solo travelers, including online forums, social media and groups such as Girl Camper and Harvest Hosts.

The coalition has created a guide for solo travelers including budget and comfort tips.
