Thor Industries and Harbinger, an electric vehicle manufacturer, released a Type A motorhome that the companies said will be commercially available in 2025 and feature a 500-mile battery range.

The Thor Test Vehicle is a demonstration hybrid RV built on a Harbinger platform. Thor said the vehicle is the first electrified chassis designed to power Type A motorhomes. The hybrid chassis is powered by a 145,000-watt battery pack, a gasoline range extender to recharge the battery and a solar-powered rooftop.

Thor President and CEO Bob Martin said, “Electrification will play a central role in the future of mobility, including RVing. This first-of-its-kind hybrid platform and our ongoing collaboration with Harbinger are reinforcing Thor’s leadership in this segment and creating major points of product differentiation for our family of companies.”

The vehicle’s 800-volt electrical architecture provides rapid charging at DC Fast Charger locations. The batteries can also be charged at traditional campsites, via the range extender and through solar power.

Thor said the Test Vehicle’s electric powertrain delivers up to twice the torque of a diesel engine. Harbinger’s chassis includes all major electric vehicle systems, including the drivetrain, high voltage battery system, steering, brakes andA picture of Harbinger's Thor Test Vehicle. more. Thor said its double-wishbone front suspension, steer-by-wire system, and class-leading Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features provide a safe, smooth ride and excellent handling.

Harbinger CEO John Harris said, “We founded Harbinger with a mission to modernize the medium-duty vehicle industry with our world-class electric chassis. Our collaboration with Thor and their family of companies allows us to help advance the RV sector and lay the groundwork for products that will enhance the RVing experience.”
