A new water tank monitoring device made waves at the RV/MH Hall of Fame Supplier’s Show in Elkhart, Indiana, on Sept. 23.

Wavetronix, a manufacturer of traffic radar sensors, unveiled its Fathom Tank Radar sensor at the show. A prototype of the water level sensor was unveiled at last year’s Supplier’s Show. After receiving positive feedback, the company returned with an enhanced product.

Wavetronix Research Engineer Thomas Karlinsey said the company targeted the RV industry because of water level sensors’ large demand.

Karlinsey said, “There has been a lot of advances in radar technology recently that has brought the cost down. So, it is to a point now that we think that it is a viable product for the RV industry.”

The device sends an electromagnetic wave through the tank to measure the water levels. According to the company, the sensors are accurate within 0.25 centimeters.

The device is RV-C compliant, eliminating the need for an adapter. The compatibility allows the device to pair with any RV-C-compliant controllers or multiplex systems including In-Command, Intellitec and Silverleaf products.

The device mounts to the tank with an industrial-strength adhesive able to withstand extreme temperatures and vibrations. According to Karlinsey, “The company’s manufacturing processes produce products that typically last 10 years and longer.”

The supplier is currently conducting beta testing with five to six manufacturers.
