Keystone RV has made a top-selling fifth wheel comeback.

For a generation, Keystone RV made the best-selling fifth wheel brand in the industry. In 2019, Grand Design RV’s Reflection took the mantle. Five years later, Keystone RV has retaken its crown.

Cougar fifth wheels gained 8.8% of fifth wheel market share in 2024 to claim the title as North America’s best-selling fifth wheel brand manufacturer.

Keystone General Manager Matt Christensen said, “It is always a win when Keystone RV is at the top. We celebrate these milestones as a company, knowing that our commitment to quality, innovation and consumer focus continues to set Cougar apart.”

The Keystone RV team achieved the No. 1 spot by staying true to its roots and accommodating consumer needs.

For decades, the company made decisions based on its F.I.R.S.T. principles. The acronym stands for fit and finish with consistent quality; innovation at all costs; residential amenities; best in-class storage; and towability.

Prioritizing these core values enabled Cougar models to align with consumer needs and industry trends.

Christensen emphasized the importance of staying true to Cougar’s roots while evolving with the market.

“It is a constant challenge to excite both our dealers and our consumers every year,” he said. “We are hyper-focused on ensuring that, regardless of market conditions, Cougar delivers tremendous value to every customer.”

One key to Cougar’s resurgence was the introduction of the Cougar Sport line in 2022. Designed to make fifth-wheel ownership more accessible, Cougar Sport provides shorter, lighter and more affordable models.

“Cougar Sport was developed to bring customers into the cycle of owning a fifth wheel sooner rather than later,” Christensen said. “We are providing a high-quality experience in a more compact, value-driven package.”

The manufacturer also updated Cougar’s Premium line. The enhancements include three full-body paint options—a rarity at its price point. The Hero edition, developed in partnership with Wounded Warrior Project, introduced a Heroic Green matte finish. Additional full-body paint options include the Midnight edition in Black Onyx or Phantom Gray, catering to consumers seeking a high-end aesthetic.

In 2024, Keystone sold 5,416 Cougar fifth wheels across the U.S. and Canada. The amount contributed to nearly 275,000 Cougar RVs sold since 1998. Many Cougar owners remain within the Keystone family when upgrading their RVs.

Historically, Montana and Cougar fifth wheels have been contenders for the top-selling fifth wheel title. Keystone RV said Cougar’s title underscored the fifth wheel’s value proposition in a competitive and inflation-conscious marketplace.
