MadMax Industries, a supplier specializing in utility trailers, plans to enter the RV market with its new patented trailer models. The company produces lightweight, retractable utility trailers for RVers who want extra storage space while traveling.
Weighing about 280 pounds, the trailers are lightweight and retract from a standard 4-foot by 8-foot utility trailer to fold against the RV’s rear.
MadMax President Bob Taylor said, “The MadMax Trailer eliminates the concern of inadvertently exceeding an RV’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).”
Taylor said MadMax’s desire is to establish an RV dealer network. He said the trailer can be a complimentary add-on to an RV sale. Taylor is also interested in teaming up with RV manufacturers to promote MadMax Trailers to dealers.
Consumers can retract the trailer with an 18-volt drill, pulling the back end of the trailer to the middle, where it can be locked down with a cable and a hook.

“When you are traveling or going to an RV campsite, nobody is excited about having a trailer there,” Taylor said. “It gives you the ability to retract it when it is not in use.”
The trailers offer a protective waterproof cover, and a mobile garage stand to hold the trailer when not in use. The trailer features taillights on the fender that swivel when retracted. The rubber half-axle torsion axle suspension system offers a smoother ride and better tracking by absorbing shock and managing wheel movement.
The trailers have three variations. The first features a removable aluminum rail framework. The second has an aluminum rail framework with UV-resistant panels made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. The panels can be removed when the trailer is retracted. The third has aluminum diamond-plated panels for increased protection and security. All 10 panels can be removed to ease loading and unloading.
The trailer’s hitch coupler fits a Class 2 standard 2-inch receiving hitch. The hitch enables 360-degree rotation and movement vertically, side-to-side and across uneven terrain.
While the trailer is retracted, the axle is vertical, locking in place the side-to-side and uneven terrain movements. The three-way articulating hitch assembly enables the trailer to retract vertically by locking side-to-side movement.
