According to documents filed with the Fort Wayne, Indiana, Department of Planning Services, Gander Outdoors is seeking approval to expand its business to include the sales and service of RVs. Gander Outdoors is known best for selling camping, hunting and fishing gear and clothing.

Freedom Roads LLC of Lincolnshire, Illinois, has requested that three Gander Outdoors parcels at 6043 Lima Road, just south of the Home Depot store, be rezoned.

The property is approximately 7.5 acres in size and is currently zoned under differing categories including shopping center, general commercial and limited commercial. The proposed rezoning would permit the Gander Outdoors location to store RVs on-site while they are being serviced and to also have units on display on the property. A setback variance has also been requested to provide allow construction of a security fence around the facility.

The rezoning application describes the proposed land use would be consistent with existing businesses along Lima Road. There is no residential housing adjacent to the property.

Gander Outdoors was formerly known as Gander Mountain. The Gander Mountain stores were acquired from a bankruptcy auction in 2017 by Illinois-based Camping World Holdings. The company has since undergone a rebranding and is opening the new stores slowly, with multiple locations at a time.
