North Carolina County Selects Envision Solar for Electric Vehicle Charging

Envision Solar electric vehicle charging station

Envision Solar International, a leading producer of sustainable products for electric vehicle charging, received the first order from a North Carolina county for its electric vehicle charging product. EV ARC will charge county’s electric fleet vehicles.

“Orange County is excited to be the first county government in North Carolina to operate fleet vehicles on off-grid solar power,” Orange County Sustainability Coordinator Brennan Bouma said. “This charging station represents an important step in our transition to 100 percent renewable energy. The EV ARC will lower the operating cost of our new ‘Mobility on Demand’ vehicles while increasing the coverage and convenience of Orange County Public Transportation.”

Orange County received a grant from the Clean Fuels Advanced Technology Project helping acquire the solar charging system. The grant program requires electric vehicle charging products must not cause any environmental disruption. Envision’s EV ARC product deploys without need for construction or environmental impact.

“Like our municipal customers, county governments are electrifying their fleets and they need a scalable and impact-free deployment like only our EV ARC can provide,” said Envision Solar CEO Desmond Wheatley said. “I’m happy to add Orange County to our growing list of county customers who are taking advantage of our technology and its rapid, predictable and cost-effective deployment and operation.”

As of 2016, there were 3,142 counties and county-equivalents in the country. Company officials state the company believes all of these counties will electrify their fleets in the future. Solar implementation in counties nationwide will continue to be a focus for the company.

How It Works

The patented EV ARC and EV ARC DC Fast Charging products fit inside single parking spaces without reducing available parking. The EV ARC product generates enough clean solar electricity to power up to 225 miles of EV driving in a day. EV ARC DC fast charging systems provide up to 1,100 miles per day. EV ARC system’s solar electrical generation features EnvisionTrak allowing the solar array to follow the sun. This generates up to 25 percent more electricity than a fixed array. Energy is stored in EV ARC’s on-board energy storage for charging day or night. It can also provide EV charging and emergency power during grid failure. The product is manufactured in California.

EV ARC is a permanent solution providing Level I, Level II and DC fast charging. Because it requires no trenching, foundations or installation work of any kind, EV ARV deploys in minutes and is relocatable.
