In a major shakeup last week, the RVIA’s board of directors met to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities facing the RV industry. The March 4 meeting in Tucson, Arizona, focused on finalizing the association’s strategic plan and discussing recommended industry practices.
During the meeting, the board adopted a motion to remove the 430-square-feet in set-up mode limitation for fifth wheels. This change is effective immediately.
The previously board-mandated 400-square-feet in set-up mode limitation requirement for travel trailers remains unchanged. This is a result of the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) ruling that RVs are not housing. Contributing to the decision were findings from a cross-collaboration task force established at the previous board meeting.
The board also approved directing the Standards Steering Committee to develop a standard definition and method of measurement for determining “tip-to-tail” RV length. The committee will also develop a recommendation on how this length information will be affixed to each unit.
The board of directors will next meet on June 4 during RVs Move America Week in Washington, DC.
