Washington State RV Length Bill Receives Senate Approval

Image of Washington state map

Last week, the Washington State Senate passed a bill (WA HB 2242) to solve the state’s RV length problem. Although the bill received broad and bipartisan support, it landed in the “x” files of the Senate Rules Committee last week. The bill was not expected to survive this session.

Resurrected through work of the RVIA, its lobbyist and industry supporters in the Washington State Legislature, it passed with a 47-1 vote. The legislation now moves to Washington Governor Jay Inslee’s desk for approval. The bill will allow travel trailers of up to 46 feet in length.

“We expect the Governor to approve HB 2242 and for it to become law,” RV Industry Association Manager of State Affairs Nick Rudowich said. “This is a great victory for the RV industry and we are grateful for everyone in the Washington legislature that worked with us to prevent any negative implications for the RV industry and RV dealers in the state had we not been able to get this bill passed.”

The problem arose last summer when the state decided to no longer approve plans for travel trailers longer than 40 feet. The manufacturing, sale and registration of longer vehicles took place for decades before the decision. Soon, it will be able to do so again.
