A single Facebook post seeking an RV for a doctor in Texas to self-isolate during the COVID-19 crisis has snowballed into a nationwide movement.
RVs 4 MDs lets RV owners lend their units to medical professionals to use to avoid the risk of possibly transmitting the coronavirus to their families.
The program began last week, when Emily Phillips of Celina, Texas, made a Facebook post asking if anyone had an RV her family could borrow. Her husband is an emergency room doctor in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, she said, and she was worried he would bring back the coronavirus into their home and infect her and her three children. She was especially worried about their infant son.
A woman named Holly Haggard replied saying Phillips could borrow hers. Knowing there are many other families in similar situations, Phillips enlisted Haggard as a partner to create RVs 4 MDs, which went live on Facebook last week. The Facebook page has since turned into a highly energized volunteer organization.
