Black Book analysts released their monthly RV Market Commentary this week, showing a “crazy month” for the RV wholesale market in April.
The average selling price for motorized units was $36,470, which is down $10,984 (23.1%) from the previous month. Towables came in at $13,631, down $1,203 (8.1%) from last month. One year ago the average motor home sold for $42,879 and the average towable unit brought $14,333.
“It was certainly a crazy month in the wholesale RV space,” said Eric Lawrence, principal analyst for specialty markets. “Looking at the graphs, it’s clear that in April values declined across the board, especially for motorized units, but keep in mind that the volume dropped off dramatically as well. All auctions were online only, and several were either closed entirely or operating at a fraction of their capacity. As more RV auctions reopen, and with dealers seeing a solid uptick in consumer demand, volume should increase and values should stabilize.”
Lawrence said total volume was down quite a bit this month, showing motor homes dropped 66.5% while towables declined 72.2%. The average age of motorized units was eight years old (2012), and towables were the same (2012).
For Motor Homes (including Class A, B, and C)
