More than 100 RVIA members met with federal policymakers on Capitol Hill on Wednesday.
According to RVIA Vice President of Government Affairs Jason Rano, RVs Move America Week’s Advocacy Day was successful.
“By bringing their voices, experiences and expertise to events like this one,” he said, “our members continue to be an invaluable, driving force as we work to ensure that as many Americans as possible can enjoy the RV lifestyle.”
Association members discussed various topics with decision-makers. Topics included:
The Generalized System of Preferences (GSP)
The GSP provides opportunities to import products from foreign countries without tariffs. A major product covered by GSP is Indonesian lauan, a specific plywood that cannot be found elsewhere. RVIA advocated to renew GSP, which expired in 2020.
Travel Trailer and Camper Tax Parity Act
RVIA members asked U.S. House and Senate members to co-sponsor the legislation, which addresses towable deductions. Motorhome inventory finance interest charges are fully tax deductible while towable RVs are only 30% deductible.
De Minimis Reform
Industry members asked lawmakers to support the End China’s De Minimis Support Act. The legislation addresses loopholes in the de minimis law allowing duty-free importations of merchandise valued at $800 or less.
Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experience (EXPLORE) Act and America’s Outdoor Recreation Act
These two acts provide resources to the RV and outdoor recreation industries. The legislation provides technical and financial assistance to campgrounds, extends public land seasons to minimize overcrowding, supplies broadband/ Wi-Fi to sites and establishes programs to repair and modernize campgrounds on federal lands.
