Airstream on Saturday revealed its all-electric Basecamp travel trailer, the 20Xe. The Xe model expands upon the Basecamp 20’s floorplan by adding electric capabilities.
Airstream’s first electric travel trailer, the Trade Wind, launched in the 2024 model year. Trade Wind incorporated features from Airstream’s eStream concept electric RV into its power system. The Basecamp 20Xe expands on Trade Wind’s electrical system to operate fully on electrical power.
Airstream President and CEO Bob Wheeler said, “The Basecamp Xe is testament to the fact that travelers today want the freedom to take whatever kind of trip they have in mind. Electrical independence is a key part of that equation. Sometimes, Airstreaming means an epic, multi-week trip to explore the outdoors, and sometimes it is a weekend trip to visit
friends and camp in the driveway. With this truly electric-first travel trailer, we are pushing the benchmark ahead and enabling Airstream owners with the flexibility to maximize their travel adventures.”
Energy Independence Capabilities
The 20-foot-long Basecamp 20Xe features a fully inverted 30-amp electrical system with a
3,000-watt inverter, 600 watts of rooftop solar panels and a 10,300-watt-hour lithium Battle Born battery bank.
The batteries provide ample power to explore remote locations while running an optional air conditioner and microwave. The fully inverted system ensures every outlet is functional. The power system includes an upgraded solar prewire port near the A-frame. An additional 300 watts of portable solar panels can plug into the port.
If RVers do not want to run the RV entirely on electrical power, the Basecamp 20Xe includes a 20-pound propane
tank, housed in a shroud, to use LP gas as an alternative fuel source for interior heating and hot water functions. The model is equipped with a backup propane tank to support outdoor grilling.
The Basecamp 20Xe’s combined water heater and furnace system can operate on electric power, propane or a mix of both.
The Aqua View recirculating feature in the wet bath reduces water waste by redirecting cold water from the hot water heater into the fresh tank until it reaches the desired temperature. An optional composting toilet is also available. A removable single-burner induction cooktop can be used indoors and outdoors by plugging into a 110-volt outlet.
Off-Grid Design
The Basecamp 20Xe features Airstream’s X package, which includes a 3-inch lift, rugged tires and black protective-coated stone guards for extra protection. The LP shroud design includes additional gear and camping accessory
storage.
Functional Interior
The Basecamp 20Xe features a dedicated sleeping space in the back and a convertible dinette up front. The shower includes L-Track mounting points to hang wet gear. A three-speaker JBL® Audio Sound System enhances RVers’ entertainment experiences.
