Airstream’s newest product line, the Type B Rangeline motorhome, has been Certified Green by TRA Certification, an Indiana-based, independent third-party inspection and certification organization.
Airstream said the company will begin labeling their RVs with TRA’s green label after achieving Emerald Off-grid level certification.
“This is a new Airstream touring coach that I am proud to have join the Class Bs and travel trailers as being green certified,” TRA Certification’s Mandy Leazenby said.
After an evaluation of the RV manufacturing facility, its procedures and practices, TRA Certification measures an RV against criteria based on national consensus standards. The criteria involve resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency and indoor air quality.
According to Airstream, the Rangeline plant recycles or reuses over 50% of manufacturing waste utilizing multiple jig and CNC systems. Several materials are cut to size by the supplier and are shipped using reusable shipping containers. While the Rangeline RVs contain minimal wood, the materials used are Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified, the company said.
Airstream’s new RVs also reduce wasted energy using over 90% interior and exterior LED lighting, the manufacturer said. The Rangeline is constructing using a unique “Lizard Skin” material that provides additional insulation, noise reduction and condensation blocking, has ductless air conditioning and furnace and is equipped with solar panels for off-grid travel, Airstream said.
