RVIA’s August 2020 RV manufacturers survey indicates total RV shipments ended the month up by 17.3 percent, with 39,489 units in 2020 compared to 33,674 units shipped in August 2019.
The towable RV segment, led by conventional travel trailers, totaled 35,561 units for the month. The total was an increase of 20.8 percent compared to August 2019’s total of 29,448 units. Motorhomes once again showed a decrease. Motorhome wholesale shipments finished the month with 3,928 units, down (-7.1 percent) compared to the August 2019 total of 4,226 units.
For the year, shipments stand at 258,591 units, off just 7.1 percent as the RV industry continues to overcome the nearly two-month shutdown this Spring due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many manufacturers said shipment numbers would be much higher if the OE suppliers could provide the parts and accessories needed to build units. Four supplier shortage areas have had a crippling impact on shipment numbers: air conditioners, furniture such as bedding, couches and love seats, circuit breats and other electrical components and windows. Many RV manufacturers’ finished inventory yards are filled with RVs that only need one or two things to be complete.
Park Model RVs finished the month down (-17.7 percent) compared to last August with 321 wholesale shipments.
