According to a report by Bloomberg, RV dealers across the country are benefiting from a surge of new RV buyers who are motivated by the need to self-isolate in the time of COVID-19.
Bloomberg uses the term “Covid Camper” to describe the units rolling off lots under social-distancing norms that could mean RVs and travel trailers are the best way for individuals or families to stay safe while vacationing. According to Bloomberg, “floor traffic at Mike Regan’s two RV dealerships outside Austin, Texas, is up 30% compared with last May. And the reason is fear.”
After a six-week hiatus, Bloomberg reported, Regan said business has been so brisk that he may not have enough trailers and motor homes to meet demand.
“The minute the campgrounds opened on May 1 and the governor turned everyone loose, our business went through the roof,” said Regan, whose sales at his Crestview dealerships were down about 50% just last month.
