The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will use $9 million in new federal funding to add 30 employees to its recreation division.
The federal funding comes from the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act legislation.
The Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR) said employees will tackle challenges brought by increased visitation. Employees will create ways to advance the recreation economy in lesser-known areas.
ORR President Jessica Wahl Turner said, “America’s lands and waters are the natural foundation upon which the $862 billion outdoor recreation industry is built.”
Turner said BLM’s partnership in supporting these areas is impactful. The new hires will maintain outdoor recreation for the next generation, Turner said.
Turner said, “Everyone should be able to reap the benefits of time spent outside.”
