Camping World said the dealer chain posted its highest new RV market share in the company’s history in the second quarter of 2024. The rising market share came despite revenue and profit drops from the second quarter of 2023.
The dealer chain sold 22,084 new RVs in the second quarter of 2024, 16.9% more than in the second quarter of 2023. New RV sales totaled $847.1 million, up 5.8% from the second quarter of 2023.
Camping World Chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis said, “Our record new unit market share was a direct result of listening to the consumer and their mandate for affordability.”
The dealer chain’s average sales price of new RVs fell 9.5% from the second quarter of 2023. Camping World said the decline was driven by the lower cost of 2024 travel trailers and discounts applied to new RVs in model years before 2024.Used RV sales fell 22.8% in the second quarter from the second quarter of 2023. Camping World President Matt Wagner said the dealer chain began ramping up its used RV inventory in the past 30 days.
“We have proceeded judiciously on mitigating used inventory risk,” Wagner said, “which will keep pressure on used vehicle margins and volume in the second half.”
Lemonis said the company is “unbelievably encouraged” by new RV sales but remains wary about the broader RV market.
“We are not naive about the macroeconomic environment around us,” Lemonis said, “and we are taking a more aggressive position around our cost structure and the optimization of underperforming locations.”
