The Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association (CRVA) reported 4,459 wholesale RV shipments to Canada in the third quarter of 2023. The total is a 56.6% decrease from the 10,269 shipments in the third quarter of 2022.
According to Statistical Surveys Inc., RVDA of Canada reported third-quarter retail activity totaled 11,329 RVs. CRVA said the difference between retail sales and shipments resulted in Canadian RV inventory levels significantly decreasing during the quarter—which CRVA said would be considered abnormal compared with historical stats.
“Dealers continued to liquidate prior year inventory on hand,” CRVA said, “combined with transportation delay issues contributed to the much higher than anticipated decrease during the quarter.”
With Transport Canada’s approval of an ELD exemption for RV carriers, effective Oct. 20, CRVA said the association is optimistic about improving fourth-quarter shipment figures.
Towable RV shipments totaled 3,820 RVs in the third quarter, down 56.7% from the third quarter of 2022. Motorized RV shipments totaled 639 RVs, down 55.9% from the third quarter of 2022.
RV shipments into Canada for the first nine months of 2023 totaled 19,865, a 59.2% decrease from the 48,670 shipments in the first nine months of 2022.
Motorized shipments in two segments are above 2022 shipments through the first nine months of the year. Type B shipments through nine months of 2023 total 727, 4.8% above the same period in 2022. Type C shipments are 5.1% higher, with 2,237 shipments through the first nine months of 2023.
