Canadian Standards Association Releases Updates

The Canadian Standards Association (CSA) published the fifth edition of the CSA Z240 RV Series of Standards with updates. Many changes are centered on efforts to synchronize Canada and U.S. RV requirements.

Stakeholders can obtain a copy of the new standards through the CSA online store.

General requirement changes under CSA Z240.0.2 include:

  • The RV definition changed and added reference photos.
  • Update the minimum rating of portable fire extinguishers.
  • Updated references.
  • NFPA 1192 synchronized warning label.
  • Updated Clause 5.1.6.
  • Lofts and ladders requirement update.

Vehicular requirement changes under CSA Z240.1.2 include vehicle, axle, tire and wheel assembly requirements for towable RVs.

Plumbing requirements CSA Z240.3.2 changes include updated references.

Propane appliance and equipment installation requirement changes under CSA Z240.4.2 include:

  • Updated maximum container capacities.
  • Gas supply connections.

Electrical requirement changes under CSA Z240.6.2/C22.2 No. 148 include:

  • Updated vented battery.
  • Added non-vented battery requirement.
  • Added non-vented battery installation labels.
  • Added alternative dielectric strength test.
  • Updated references.
