The Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association (CRVA) reported wholesale RV shipments increasing in the first quarter of 2024 from the first quarter of 2023.
In the first quarter of 2024, wholesale RV shipments totaled 8,086, up 14.2% from the first quarter of 2023.
According to Statistical Surveys Inc., RVDA of Canada reported first-quarter retail sales of 4,485, equaling about 60% of wholesale shipments.
“Canadian RV dealer inventory levels significantly increased during the period,” CRVA said, “which would be considered to be normal as dealers replenish their inventory for selling season and RV shows early in 2024.”
CRVA said retail RV shows attracted numerous RV enthusiasts and potential buyers nationwide. The results led CRVA to be “optimistic” the retail-to-shipment ratio will be positive in 2024.
“As economic conditions stabilize, anticipated interest rate cuts take place and consumer confidence grows,” CRVA said, “it is expected that more and more individuals and families will look at RVs closely again as a viable option for travel and leisure entering the summer months.”
Travel trailer wholesale shipments rose 23.8% in the first quarter of 2024 from a year earlier. Fifth wheel shipments also rose sharply, up 19.8% from the first quarter of 2023.
Motorhome shipments remained lower. Each motorhome type posted first-quarter 2024 shipments well below 2023 levels. Type C shipments were down 16.1% from the first quarter of 2023, Type B shipments were down 35.8% and Type A shipments were down 45.9%.
