The Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association reported wholesale RV shipments rose more than 263% in the second quarter of 2021 from the pandemic-challenged second quarter of 2020.
Total shipments in the second quarter of 2021 were 16,250, up from 4,471 in the second quarter of 2020. The total also increased from the 13,852 wholesale shipments delivered in the first quarter of 2021.
Through the first half of the year, the association reported wholesale shipments were 129.7% ahead of 2020’s pace.
The association did note that 2020 shipments were significantly lower because of shutdowns related to the pandemic. However, comparing the figures with the last six years, the association said 2021 has the second-highest total over the period.
“According to Statistical Surveys Inc., RVDA of Canada recently reported retail activity for the first six months in 2021 totaled 30,376 units,” the Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association stated, “and when compared to the wholesale shipment figure of 30,102 would indicate that Canadian dealer’s inventory levels have not expanded as we anticipated.”
The Canadian RV Association said it hoped increased production and seasonally adjusted retail activity in the second half of 2021 would enable retailers to replenish their inventory levels.
“We expect that demand from Canadian RV enthusiasts will remain strong throughout the rest of 2021,” the association stated.
In the second quarter, the association reported 12,590 wholesale shipments of travel trailers and 2,025 wholesale shipments of fifth wheels. All motorhome wholesale shipments totaled 1,193 in the period.
