Care Camps Names New Board Members

Care Camps has named six new members to the charity’s board of directors.

Kristina Akin, Debora Hankinson, Kathy Holland, Jamie Rademacher, Jeff Rodino and David Vaughn will join Care Camps’ board, the nonprofit said.

Since 1982, Care Camps has supported specialized pediatric oncology camps to ensure children on a cancer journey experience the outdoors’ healing power, the agency said. Care Camps has raised over $24 million to fund camps across North America serving children diagnosed with cancer and their families.

Care Camps board Chair Wade Elliott said the new board members bring vision and experience to the organization.

“We are grateful for their volunteered time and talents,” Elliott said. “The insight and vision of our board members and support staff enable us to impact thousands of children annually who are experiencing cancer. as we look forward to working with the new board, we want to express heartfelt thanks to board members and staff who have previously served. Each of you played a vital role in making Care Camps what it is today. We are forever thankful for your endeavors.”

Akin is a Bristol, Tennessee, Kampgrounds of America (KOA) franchisee, a pediatric cancer survivor, and a former Care Camps participant. Akin has campground stewardship expertise and first-hand knowledge of Care Camps.

Hankinson owns the Alamosa/Great Sand Dune KOA Journey in Alamosa, Colorado. Hankinson is a retired architect and Care Camps said she is influential in her region’s economic development corporation.

Holland has been in the hospitality industry for over 25 years. She was a regional vice president of operations for Aimbridge Hospitality and now is a KOA regional vice president overseeing operations of 11 KOA’s Owners Association campgrounds.

Rademacher is a multi-park KOA franchisee and owns marinas in Kansas and Tennessee. As a cancer survivor, Care Camps said Rademacher is passionate about the agency’s mission and vision. 

Rodino is president of Patrick Industries and has over 28 years of experience serving the RV, marine, manufactured housing and industrial markets.

Vaughn is a KOA franchisee and owns the Indianapolis KOA Holiday. Has been in the campground industry for over 18 years.
