A cyber incident Wednesday morning at CDK Global shut down operations for customers using the company’s automotive dealer management systems (DMS). A report Thursday morning said the outages have continued today.
BleepingComputer, an online information security and technology news publication, first reported the outages.
CDK Global said the company was actively investigating a cyber incident Wednesday. Out of caution and concern for customers, the software provider shut down most of its systems while examining the incident.
As of 5:30 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday, the company told customers it restored DMS access. However, another reported incident late Wednesday night led CDK Global to inform customers its DMS system would be down again today.
“We are currently assessing the overall impact and consulting with external third-party experts,” the company said in an email to customers. “At this time, we do not have an estimated time frame for resolution and therefore our dealers’ systems will not be available at a minimum on Thursday, June 20th.”
The outages reportedly affected up to 15,000 automotive dealerships. The impact on RV dealerships’ access to CDK Global’s DMS remained unclear Thursday morning as CDK Global contacts did not return phone calls and emails.
