In 1910, when Utica, New York’s main industry was textile manufacturing, a group of businessmen founded Utica Cutlery Company to create jobs and boost the local economy. Though several additions have since been made, Utica Cutlery’s factory and office remain at 820 Noyes Street, its original location.
The company started manufacturing pocket knives, adding kitchen cutlery to its repertoire in 1918. Focus shifted again during WWII, when the supplier made bayonets and carbine parts for soldiers.
After the war, Utica added stainless flatware to its product lineup. To add various price points, Utica Cutlery imported additional flatware in the 1970s. Today, Utica sells pocket knives, flatware, fixed blade and inner lock knives.
