Though Valterra’s first products were RV waste valves, the aftermarket supplier also made skateboard decks and bearings for a time. Just watch 1985’s “Back to the Future” to see Michel J. Fox skating on a Valterra board.
Bert Grengs founded Valterra Products in 1981 with his son and daughter, and their respective spouses. Before that, he had his own plastic injection molding company, Grentec Inc., where he made RV gate valves and toilets, then plastic skateboards.
Valterra shifted efforts toward expanding into the RV industry but encountered other industrial applications along the way. By the late 1990s, Valterra had entered the pool, spa and plumbing industries with the acquisitions of both EZ Coupler and Hydroflush.
Today, Valterra makes several RV aftermarket products, including those for sewer and sanitation, faucets, lighting, tire pressure monitoring and levelers. To serve clients seeking low-cost custom manufacturing, Valterra started a contract manufacturing division in 2008.
Since then, Valterra has acquired almost a dozen companies and accrued more than 430 employees, many of whom have been with the company for 20, 30, or 40 years. Valterra’s molding facility and its 39 injection molding machines became ISO certified in 2015.
