A six-decade legacy is cause for celebration in Spencer, Iowa, and Boyden, Iowa, this summer.
Dethmers Manufacturing Co. (Demco) will host two 60th anniversary parties. The supplier’s Spencer location will celebrate from 4-6:30 p.m. Friday. The Boyden location’s event will run from 4-6:30 p.m. June 21.
As Demco celebrates its founding, the supplier continues remodeling its Boyden location. Demco is transforming a location building into a training, lodging and entertainment space. The building will host 12 rooms, a kitchen, an office and a common room for training.
The building will additionally display products and images of Demco’s history in its Heritage Center.
The supplier, known for towing solutions in the RV world, has agricultural industry roots. Robert Dethmers founded the business in 1964.
Dethmers died in 1974 and the legacy continued through ownership partners Jim Koerselman and Ken Mulder.
The supplier developed the Kar Kaddy in the 1980s for the agricultural business. Today, the company sells the tow dolly to RV consumers to maneuver vehicles around campgrounds.
Over the years, Demco acquired Circle R, SMI Manufacturing and Victoria Industries. The expansions led Demco to make fifth wheel hitches and towed vehicle brake systems.
Today, the company is family-owned by Bob Koerselman, Kevin Ten Haken and James Koerselman.
Demco said, “The No. 1 strength Demco has is creating an environment that treats our team and customers like a community.”
Demco will honor team members at the upcoming anniversary celebrations.
