DexKo Global’s subsidiary, Dexter Axle Co., is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year. The company was founded in 1960 in Elkhart, Indiana, by Leonard Dexter to serve the growing RV and manufactured housing markets. Its initial product offerings were limited to light duty sprung axles and components. The company’s growth strategy was to continually develop new products to expand the product line.
Dexter Axle Co.’s business grew to include medium duty axles, Torflex rubber torsion suspension axles, E-Z Lube axle spindles, a Nev-R-Lube sealed cartridge bearing system, E-Z Flex suspension system, Nev-R-Adjust trailer brakes, and specialty heavy duty axles and suspensions.
Through key distributor partnerships, the company’s products are available through a network of more than 450 distribution points.
Leadership helped Dexter provide high-quality products and customer service. Initially led by Leonard Dexter, others followed including Richard Dexter, Mike Jones and now Adam Dexter. Adam Dexter, grandson of founder Leonard Dexter, took the helm as president and CEO in 2008. During this time, the company has completed 12 acquisitions in North America. Today, Dexter Axle Co. is a leading North American manufacturer of axles in the RV, commercial, marine and specialty heavy-duty markets.
Today the company offers axles, axle components, suspension products, leaf springs, fenders, brake actuators, disc brakes and other trailer accessories.
In Dec. 2015, DexKo Global was formed through the merger of Dexter Axle Co. and AL-KO Vehicle Technology. The running gear supplier operates in North America as a subsidiary of DexKo Global. Today DexKo operates in 23 countries and employs more than 7,400 individuals worldwide.
“We have achieved this significant milestone through the hard work and dedication of our employees, both past and present, our culture of providing excellent customer service throughout the organization, and our 60 years of dedication to product innovation and manufacturing the highest quality reliable products,” Adam Dexter said. “Throughout 2020, we’ll celebrate this
outstanding achievement with our dedicated employees, our valued suppliers, and our customer partners.”
Dexter Axle Co. is headquartered in Elkhart, Indiana, employing over 2,400 people in the U.S. and Canada. It operates 18 manufacturing facilities in ten states and Canadian provinces. More than three million axles are produced annually. The company reports more than 50 million of its axles have been installed over the last 60 years.
“We look forward to continued growth and partnerships,” Adam Dexter said.
